Q+A: NOAH JACK

Meet 20-year-old emo-pop producer-artist Noah Jack, who recently dropped a new track “ANGST”. After making the decision to leave fashion school, he started to dedicate his time to writing and recording music. Thankfully for us, that has led to the release of three amazing singles that are sonically unlike anything else out right now. The latest of the three, “ANGST”, reflects on the moment Noah decided to fully take the time and energy to invest in himself. He produced and wrote the track himself, showcasing his unique songwriting abilities. The release is also accompanied by a music video that compliments the track perfectly.

We had the opportunity to ask the artist a few questions via email about his latest release, “ANGST,” along with what is next for the dynamic artist!

Can we start off with an introduction?

Yo! My name’s Noah Jack. I’m a 20-year-old artist hailing from Pennsylvania.

What was your first experience with music, and do you have a specific memory of the moment you realized that music was more than just a hobby?

The first time that I made music was in eleventh grade. I had run out of art electives to take and music production was the only one available. Needless to say, I was hooked after the first week of class. I really started taking music seriously when COVID-19 hit and I finally had more time to write and record.

Your lyrics are relatable and reflective, yet they still feel unique to you. What kind of headspace are you in when you sit down to write?

I’ve recently (I’d say within the past six months) started being an open book when I write. I’ve found that writing lyrics that are transparent to me and my emotions can be a sort of therapy for me.

Let’s talk about your latest release. What went into the process of creating “ANGST”?

The day I wrote ANGST was like any other, but I remember that it came super easy to me that day. I’d say the beat probably took an hour to produce and arrange, and the recording was wrapped in like an hour or two. A lot of times I’ll argue with myself over what I want to say, but for ANGST I just recorded what I was feeling in the moment and kept going instead of getting stuck on what I was saying.

The music video for “ANGST” is sick. What was the inspiration behind it, and how did you select the specific locations to shoot?

We wanted a visual that matched the energy of the song, and so when it came to location, a drastic change in setting seemed fitting. It was a very “run-and-gun” approach, and so we location scouted a little bit, but a lot of the shots were made from us being like, “Yo, how cool would it be if we shot over there?”

Who would you cite as some of your influences at the moment?

Right now, my biggest influences have to be Dylan Brady, Aries, and Kenny Beats. I hold their discography in such high regard because they’re always pushing for originality and quality.

With your background in design, how much of a role do your fashion choices and visuals play into your creative direction?

Fashion plays such a massive role in my creative direction. I like to make my choices based on how much I want to stand out in relation to how loud the music is.

Lastly, what is next for Noah Jack?

I want to release more music really soon! I have a bunch of really cool records I’d like to put out shortly. Long-term, I have an EP called “AMALGAMATION” that I’m super stoked about.
