MUST LISTEN 051

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like Public Library Commute, Pascal, and, seeyousoon. Turn on, tune in, and zone out.

Public Library Commute - 25MPH

PLC delivers sweet endearing vocals over a beat reminiscent of the early 2000s sampled hip-hop. The track with its steady cadence of drums and sample chops provides a unique flavor for PLC’s smooth airy vocal delivery contemplating love and life. This is a perfect vibe for just cruising around, as the song implies, at 25 mph.

Pascal - don't overthink

Pascal gives us a somber guitar-driven tune with vocals ripe with conviction, singing about the dilemmas of dealing with a mind in peril, anxiousness, paranoia, and the like, the song beautifully reminds us in the refrain using two simple words, “don’t overthink”. This song is raw with emotion with slow spacy guitar strumming over echoey drums and a powerful wailing guitar solo at the end for good measure.

Spills - Reflexions II

Labeling this song and the album it’s on as ‘Vaporgaze’ alluding to the apparent stylistic influences this Chicago band pulls from shoegaze and vaporwave. A successful combination, to say the least, trading the electronic echoes of vaporwave for fresh lush, almost water-like guitar tones and vocals that bask in reverb so much so to create a cloud-like sensation while listening.

seeyousoon - Matte Black

Floridian nine-piece hip-hop group, seeyousoon, delivers with their confidence-boosting track “Matte Black.” The track is a gloomy, glitchy hip-hop cut showcasing another side from the collective.

Bree Runway - Hot Hot

Bree Runway, the Hackney-born, globally hailed “pop rebel” releases club-friendly single “HOT HOT.” It’s the latest release from the multi-faceted artist best known for her unique blend of musical genres and boldness in pushing the envelope for pop music and changing the narrative.

REI AMI - “THAT'S ON YOU!”

Alt-pop singer and songwriter, REI AMI, comes out swinging on her latest track and visual for “THAT’S ON YOU!” The rising pop mogul’s range and versatility are on full display as the track opens with a fierce yet playful rap verse before seamlessly transitioning into a soft captivating pop earworm.

AUDREY NUNA - SPACE

Rising R&B singer-songwriter  and rapper, AUDREY NUNA, returns with her hypnotic new single, "Space.” The cool-toned visual is paired with the celestial songstress’ hazy gliding over a murky and submerged production yearning for some space.

The Emerald Isle - Craigmoondance

The Emerald Isle is the jangly pop music of Craig Murray & Lionel (Vinyl) Williams. If you are familiar with Lionel’s Vinyl Williams project you will notice the dreamy shoegaze-like influence but rooted in a tighter instrumental arrangement that doesn’t go quite as experimental as his typical stuff. Expect more from The Emerald Isle as they get closer to their vinyl release.

Stray Fossa - Diving Line

Stray Fossa delivers us with that classic indie goodness. A tight driving drum & bass loop, vocals that sound like they drifting away yet in your face at the same time, and some guitar work which layers thick flangy chords and little flares here and there to fill out the track, all of this over subject matter dealing with isolation, contemplation, and longing. The formula to a perfect indie groove to set you up for the upcoming warm months.
