MUST LISTEN 012

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like Jack Moss, Kllo, and Planet 1999. Turn up, tune in, and tune out.

Jack Moss - “Coastline”

Off of his sophomore project Pearl Diver, this song was one of the most standout tracks. Surrounded by a synth-driven instrumental, mellow guitar melody, and extremely detailed vocal layering, the track makes for the perfect summer soundtrack.

Kllo - “Insomnia”

This track is the second single off the Melbourne based electro-R&B duo, Kllo’s, sophomore album Maybe We Could. The song expresses the theme of unrequited love, intertwining elements of a faded electroproduction along with tender R&B heartbreak, it gives us a taste of what to expect from their upcoming album.

Planet 1999 - “Spell”

Fresh off of the trio’s debut EP, Devotion, also the debut project of their label PC Music: known for signing artists that live in the hyper-pop realm. Planet 1999 slows it down on this record; this track in particular entrances you with airy auto tuned vocals and a dreamlike production that captures you into a psychedelic trance.

Shamir - “On My Own”

The indie-rock figurehead's latest track reimagines 90's pop-rock for the modern world in what he alludes to as his most accessible album since his debut, Ratchet. Both the track and music video were created during quarantine, it was originally written about the solace of being an introvert after a breakup, later morphing into an accidental quarantine anthem.

Grandma - “So Long”

Atlanta based multi-instrumentalist, Grandma, displays versatility all throughout his debut mixtape Even If We Don’t Get It Together. The project leaps through genres like bedroom-pop, indie-pop, and even electro-R&B. A standout track from it is, “So Long,” it's infused with aggressive production and airy vocals that seem reminiscent of Billie Eilish.

Frex - “Come Around”

Los Angeles based singer-songwriter Frex released her latest single “Come Around” after about a year of hiatus. This track is hypnotic, fresh, and bold, with ethereal vocals that float over a woozy production. This only has us more excited to see what she’ll release next.

Hojean - “Hookup Culture”

Singer, songwriter, and producer Hojean, just released his latest song “Hookup Culture.” It's an extremely personal track that highlights the theme of navigating through society’s imposed hookup culture. With lyrics that express the feeling of unrequited effort in a relationship over a delicate guitar riff, this feels like Hojean’s most intimate song to date.

Cookiez - “No Hace Falta”

From their debut EP, Recién Horneadas (Just Baked), the song that stood out most was “No Hace Falta” (No Need). It channels a certain energy that’s influenced by the 2000s, throughout the production you hear ad-libs from Jigglypuff that are accompanied by old-school sounding beepers.

KALLITECHNIS - “Gimme The Light (feat. ES KAY) [Falcxne Remix]”

Coming off her first-ever remix EP, blends vol 1,  “Gimme The Light (Falcxne Remix)” gets a refreshing upbeat face-lift. The EP feels relaxing and exciting, as each track makes you want to get up and dance on a rooftop overlooking your favorite place.
