The project explores uncharted territory with pop-infused sounds and styles that truly showcase Sarina’s dynamic range. Speaking on the EP, Sarina shares, “Glass Paradise sounds like how I want summer to feel. When people listen I want them to feel like they are at peace, in their favorite place in the world, with their favorite person. This project was created during quarantine. It was my way of being able to travel without going anywhere. I hope that no matter what season it is or how people are feeling they can listen and escape to somewhere that feels like home.” We had the opportunity to delve deeper into the creative process behind the rising star’s versatile EP.
Do you mind introducing yourself?
My name is Sarina and I am a Pop/R&B singer from Maryland.
What's your earliest memory pertaining to music?
My earliest memory is when I was around 4 or 5 and I was given a guitar. I made up a song and performed it for the parents and kids at my mom's daycare at the time.
What gravitated you to make R&B music?
I honestly don’t know because when I first started making songs I was creating without being aware of what genre of music I was making. I was creating based on feeling and I think the end product just best fits under R&B.
Congratulations on the release of Glass Paradise! Do you mind telling us more about the creative process behind it?
Creating Glass Paradise was an amazing experience. I was able to create the whole project from my room. I think that because the environment in which I created was so comfortable and freeing it really contributed to me being able to express myself a little more on this project than I have in the past. Collaborating with my producer, Cherry Beetz, was also amazing because he always knows how to tell a story perfectly with his production.
The harmonies throughout “You See Me” and also throughout the project feel ethereal. What were some of your inspirations when creating the project?
Specifically when it came to making “You See Me,” I wanted it to feel like a movie soundtrack, almost. When you listen to the song I want you to be able to visualize and fully experience all the emotions attached to the song.
Which track from Glass Paradise resonates with you the most?
I think it is a tie between “Overnight” and “You See Me” but “Overnight” is definitely one of the most emotional songs I have written.
Who are you currently listening to?
Currently, I am listening to Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, and H.E.R.
