MUST LISTEN 132

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like ARYEÈ THE GEM, Noah Guy, and Fireboy DML.

Atlanta-based singer, songwriter, and vocal producer ARYEÈ THE GEM returns with an exquisite new R&B jam titled “To It”. The track beautifully merges R&B, soul, hip-hop, and indie elements to deliver an eclectic high-frequency sound that intersects art and healing through musical expression.

Philadelphia-raised, Los Angeles-based soul-pop singer/songwriter Noah Guy releases his new single “BIG BOYS DON’T CRY.” The track is a fresh and exciting take on retro-futurism, pairing the catchy bounce, swing, and rawness of early 2000s R&B classics, with unique programmed drum/sampling accents to create a sound bed for Noah Guy’s vocals that are equal parts striking and hypnotic.

Singer-songwriter Fireboy DML returns with his first single of the year “Someone” exploring the ups and downs of romance as an in-demand music artist. Stepping away from his former ‘playboy’ persona, this new record sees another side of Fireboy wearing his emotions on his sleeve and diving headfirst into love.

Singer-songwriter Reggie Becton returns with his latest project, SadBoy. This project is a liberating new chapter for Reggie Becton as he’s seeking control over his emotions. SadBoy's sonic identity is a deftly woven tapestry of textured sounds and thoughtful, introspective lyrics. It's a world built upon raw, unbridled passion.

Los Angeles R&B singer-songwriter PHABO delivers the effortlessly smooth and timely slow jam, “Casamigos.” Over a sultry baseline and fuzzy drums, the track touches on themes of bitter-sweet companionship like the ones we have with a certain brand of tequila.

Quiet Luke’s second offering of 2023, “K0D,” is a product of the times. The triumphant alternative rock anthem, coming in hot at just about 1 minute long, is not just an intro, but the full spectrum of pop motifs—an intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, and double chorus—done faster than you can say “hypermodernism,” or at the very least, faster than you could order from the McDonalds drive-thru.

Fast-rising, alternative-indie-pop artist Rachel Chinouriri has debuted her dreamy, emotive new single “Ribs.” The song continues a run of singles centered around infectious melodies drawn from Rachel’s unfiltered emotions and personal experiences underscores her skill at crafting compelling and high-impact music.

16-year-old Haitian-American songwriter and producer Chenayder shares her new single "Off The Wall," off her forthcoming debut EP, Blue Oblivion, due May 26th. Chenayder’s soft delivery lies comfortably beneath this haunted drum pattern that swirls around the chorus emulating a haunted house feel. The video sees a ghostlike Chenayder haunting the walls and screens of a grand home until it is engulfed in flames.
