MUST LISTEN 083

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like Alex Mali, Duckwrth, and Frex. Turn on, tune in, and zone out.

Duckwrth

Critically acclaimed rapper Duckwrth returns with his latest release, SG8*, a collection of songs that portray his skills in a refined and renowned way. In “No Chill” the LA-based rapper flows over an addictive beat, blending in melodies and bars to effortlessly blur the lines between genres.

FALANA

Canadian-Nigerian singer-songwriter FALANA releases her highly anticipated sophomore EP, Rising. The project is centered around women's empowerment; it’s a journey of the different emotions and stories that we all experience - stories of self-love, personal struggle, romance, black girl joy, and chasing your dreams told from a woman’s perspective.

Siaira Shawn

Los Angeles based singer-songwriter Siaira Shawn returns with her dark and emotive track, “What’s Better.” Her vocals effortlessly float over a minimal bass-heavy production, pairing her silky tone and poeticism to draw us into her orbit.

Johan Lenox

Johan Lenox teams up with Ant Clemons on their latest track “You Up?” The track is the debut single for Johan’s upcoming album, What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up? It captures the somber energy that’s associated with an unanswered “u up?” text while managing to touch on navigating through young adulthood and the inevitable love-life burnout.

Alex Mali

Singer-songwriter Alex Mali releases her latest single, “Mind You,” off of her powerful eight-track mixtape, Iconic. Her melodic, distinctive spin on modern R&B paired with her honest songwriting and boppy, nostalgic melodies prevail across the mixtape. Fuelled by intense emotion, the singer/songwriter paints the picture of a strong, independent figure weaving her blunt experiences of relationships, temptation, and apologies over contemporary electronic R&B synths and rhythmic drum loops.

CLIP

NYC-based rapper CLIP catches our ears on her effortlessly confident new single, “Calvin K.” Lurking from the shadows, the MC has developed quite a cult-like following for her style, music, and presence over the last few years. With a killer flow, fresh beats, and a vibe that's all her own, CLIP is the hidden gem everyone should discover.

Chloe Bodur

Singer, songwriter, and producer Chloe Bodur releases her highly anticipated 5 track EP, MAVI, which showcases the rising star’s sonic palette to the fullest. Chloe channels her sultry side on standout track, “Mine” as she reflects on a meaningful friendship that has resulted in a bittersweet feeling.

Frex

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Frex blesses us with her latest single, “Quits.” The single is an experimental garage-like sound, and touches on not giving up in a relationship with her buttery vocals gliding over the production to create an ethereal digital soundscape.
