MUST LISTEN 046

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like Gupsy, Cosha, and Boys World. Turn on, tune in, and zone out.

GUSPY - “STEEZ LUÍZ”

“STEEZ LUÍZ” is the smooth-talking debut single from Santa Ana’s very own, GUSPY. GUSPY draws on the classic sounds of surf rock and reggae, but finishes off the track with a modern twist. Switching between English and Spanish, the lyrics grapple with the “highs of love and lows of loss.”

Cosha - “Lapdance from Asia ft. Shygirl”

Cosha’s latest single “Lapdance from Asia” is a visual and auditory stunner. The video, directed by Gilbert Bannerman, creates a 2D sunset-shrouded paradise for Cosha’s soft yet sensual vocals. A feature from the ever-so-cool Shygirl ties it all together with a style and ambiance that compliments both artists.

Boys World - “Wingman”

Introducing Queenie, Elana, Lillian, Makhyli, and Olivia: the girls of Boys World. Along with a  little irony, their group name also contains an acronym—Boys stands for “Best of Yourself.” Their new single “Wingman” delivers stellar choreography, on-trend fashion, and an inspiring message of self-reliance and self-confidence.

Sam Ezeh - “Suspension”

Sweden-based artist Sam Ezeh wows with “Suspension” off his debut EP Night at Ezeh’s. With inspirations that range from Jimi Hendrix to Childish Gambino, you can hear the marriage of old and new woven throughout his work. “Suspension” is no exception, with its psychedelic, satisfyingly smooth sound and a vivid visualizer to match.

Reece - “Generational Heartthrob”

Reece is no stranger to the trials and tribulations of pursuing a career in music. The new single “Generational Heartthrob” takes off its rose-colored glasses and stares at the harsh realities of the entertainment industry. With recognition of his previous works from notable publications, there are high hopes for more to come from Reece in 2021.

ATARASHII GAKKO! - “NAINAINAI”

With their unabashed and carefree stage presence, Japanese four-piece ATARASHII GAKKO! are a force to be reckoned with. Members Suzuka, Rin, Kanon, and Mizyu celebrate youth culture in their addictive new single, “NAINAINAI.” With the likes of 88rising on their radar, you don’t want to miss out on what else they have in store with their international debut.

Forrest Nolan - “Still Friends”

You can find Forrest Nolan on the cover of Spotify’s “Fresh Finds: Indie” playlist this week with his new single, “Still Friends.” The acoustic tune is a bittersweet account of a fresh breakup and the process of letting go. Like the song, the music video is simply intimate and lets the listener into a quiet space to sit and enjoy.

Christian Blue - “LuvDrunk”

Oakland-native Christian Blue returns with a bright and energetic single, “LuvDrunk.” The song follows the buzz of his previous two singles “Money Talks” and “Leave It Unlocked,” as well as collaborations with the likes of JAWNY and Tinashe. The beat that runs throughout the song is lively and euphoric, invoking an early taste of summer.

María Isabel - “atrapada en el cielo”

Dominican singer-songwriter María Isabel pays tribute to her roots with “atrapada en el cielo.”  The track is the Spanish version of “Stuck in the Sky” off the EP of the same name. It’s angelic and heartbreaking; lamenting on a relationship that is stagnant and crumbling.
