MUST LISTEN 037
Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like SebastiAn, Unusual Demont, and Radiant Children. Turn up, tune in, and tune out!
SebastiAn - Sober (ft. Bakar)
From his sophomore album, Thirst, SebastiAn creates an aggressive and punchy electronic track while seamlessly blending rich vocals from rising star Bakar on “Sober.” The producer is lost in introspection and becomes trapped in a labyrinth his inner self has created. Although we currently can’t experience hedonistic temptations as the lyrics suggest, the isolation the majority of us have faced in recent months makes listening to this a cathartic release.
Duñe x Crayon - Slowdiving (ft. Lossapardo)
The French duo released their album, Hundred Fifty Roses earlier this year, with Crayon on production and Duñe serving his silky smooth vocals. Both artists, though established on their own, come together to take us on an R&B, funkadelic journey which features their knockout track “Slowdiving” alongside labelmate, Lossapardo. The hook and bassline will warm you up and have you playing this on repeat all season.
Unusual Demont - Amber
Accidental rebel and self-described ‘weirdo,’ Unusual Demont wows with his debut single, “Amber.” Pulled from his upcoming EP Hues, the artist paints a sonic landscape that serves as an appetizer for what we can expect from the project. Accompanied by an inventive and creative music video, we’re eagerly awaiting where he will take us next.
CHAI - Plastic Love
Japanese quartet, CHAI, put their own energetic spin on the 1984 City Pop standard “Plastic Love” as the b-side of their single, “Donuts Mind If I Do.” Whereas the 90’s revival was popular the past few years, perhaps the 80’s have arrived once again. By showing the world a Tokyo from their point of view, we get a music video featuring an intimate and realistic perspective of the famous city.
Radiant Children - Rare
Even though this year has been full of hardships, Rare Children continues to soothe our wounds and worries with the release of “Rare” off of their debut album, There’s Only Being Yourself. The soulful basslines, sultry chords as well as cozy vocals come together to create the breezy movement of the song. If there’s anything to note, it’s that good vibes don’t stop with the British trio.
Molina - Venus
The Danish-Chilean artist’s 2019 single, “Venus,” is a cryptic pilgrimage through suggestive, corporeal imagery. Starting off as dark and haunting, the artist delivers a heavenly performance accompanied by a retro-infused synth pop production. Molina’s advanced aesthetic and artistry is evident with this multidimensional track.
Conducta - Time (feat. JGrrey)
As a trailblazer in the UK Garage scene, Conducta reminds us what a good party looks, feels, and sounds like with “Time.” Teaming up with R&B singer, JGrrey, the two otherworldly talents collide to create a vibrant, fun anthem. The high energy is not lost in the accompanying video and shows that the artist isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
Sunni Colón - Penny For Your Thoughts
Sunni Colón’s release of his self-produced single, “Penny For Your Thoughts” pacified eager fans by accompanying the track with another single “Slip n Slide.” The immersive soundscape created by the illusive artist takes us to a prismatic swim through this nearly seven minute song. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to take another dive as we anticipate a larger project in the works.
A.G. Cook - Show Me What (feat. Cecile Believe)
A standout from A.G. Cook’s 49-track debut album, 7G, “Show Me What” features vocals from Cecile Believe accompanied by innovative instrumentation. Fired out from a pop factory, it makes you stop and wonder if a future with flying cars and teleportation devices is already here.
