MUST LISTEN 015
Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like Bluerose., Lealani, and Zsela! Turn up, tune in, and tune out.
Erika de Casier - “Little Bit”
Reminiscent of late 90’s RnB, Erika de Casier’s track from her debut album, Essentials, is like freshly squeezed orange juice on a hot, sticky summer morning. Earning praise from artists like Dua Lipa and Clairo, she proves her melancholic voice and sweet lyrics are worth tuning an ear to.
Bluerose. - “Hangover Honey”
The French-Malaysian singer drops his newest single from his upcoming album, Cabine Fever, produced entirely in his bedroom. It aims to be the cathartic anthem for those who want to reclaim the feel-good, beach-filled season many were wishing for and fill your speakers with funk-inspired synthpop.
Numi - “Count 1, 2”
It’s something fun, something for the summertime, something for the girls to get ready and party to. Numi’s energetic and dance-able track is infectious and is reflected in the people dancing in her music video. A contrast to her typical free-flowing RnB discography, her diverse talents make her one to look out for.
Rey D’Asian - “Say Yes”
Rey D’Asian encourages us to just say yes and live in the moment. The lofi beats, funky guitar sounds, and stunning lyrics are like ear candy. It makes us excited to hear more in his debut EP releasing this fall.
Lulu Be. - “Gimme Dat”
This fast-moving dance track with hypnotic verses suck you in and make you feel like it’s 1 am in a sweaty, crowded club with neon lights flashing all around. The Chicago native shows she has versatility as a rapper and producer by mixing in elements of afrobeats with house and hip-hop.
Lealani - “Floating”
As the lead single for her debut album, Fantastic Planet, this song sounds like a NASA transmission sent to outer space in order to connect with life forms outside of our galaxy. The psychedelic lyrics and visuals help cement the otherworldliness. It shouldn’t be too long before it’s getting played in underground clubs.
Otha - “I’m on Top”
The hypnotic synths and catchy beats of “I’m on Top” won’t be able to leave your head after listening to the Norwegian electronic artist, who wows and makes us practically beg for more music. This rising star deserves to be on top of the EDM charts alongside acts like Flume and Disclosure.
Zsela - “Earlier Days”
It’s time to slow down and chill out for this one. In her song, “Earlier Days,” the singer reminisces about a love that is long gone and her vocals make clear of her pain. Her soothing and soulful sound is ideal for solo-quarantining or winding down after a long day.
imugi 이무기 - “Be Here Soon”
Hailing from Auckland, the duo (singer/song-writer Yery Cho and producer Carl Ruwhiu), release an airy synthpop track. With a goal to confront Eurocentric ideals and embrace the multicultural, we’re eager to see what else awaits the electronic artists.
