TRACK REVIEW: Kali Uchis - After The Storm (feat. Tyler The Creator & Bootsy Collins)

Kali Uchis has been making waves recently with tracks like ‘Tyrant’ featuring UK upcomer Jorja Smith, her frequent collaborations with Tyler the Creator, most recently off his critically acclaimed Flower Boy album, and the grammy nominated ‘Get You’ which she featured on alongside Daniel Caesar. The saying if it ain't broke don’t fix it is a perfect way to describe this new track. A silky smooth bass groove (provided by none other than Bootsy himself) which plays along the bouncing synths, transports you to an era of love, soul, and funk.

The gorgeous 70s tinged track is topped off with the triumphant lyrics of self love from Kali, a heartfelt verse from Tyler, and a instrumental breakdown near the ending of the track. All these parts, while on their own outstanding, really come together to create a very interesting neo-soul/funk hybrid akin to some of Tyler’s recent work on Flower Boy. The visual for the song is humorous in nature but also a beautiful composition of colors, set design, and creativity. If this doesn't have you daydreaming of being in warmer weather, you're fucking up. Looking forward to her debut album,  Fool's Paradise, this spring.
