MUST LISTEN 133

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like BAMBII, Naomi Sharon, and Yeek.

Following a streak of successes in this year alone, the Toronto-based DJ, producer, and artist BAMBII released her debut EP Infinity Club. Organically, it builds on her already-impressive sonic repertoire as she uses warped dancehall samples, drum'n'bass, jungle, and pop sounds to encapsulate her idea of an exploratory body of work that connects sounds of the Caribbean diaspora with electronic music.

Australian R&B artist William Singe, shares his independent record Where Do Birds Go At Night? The project is a testament to William Singe's ability to effortlessly infuse an early 2000s charm with a contemporary edge, delivering a sound that pays homage to the golden era of R&B while still feeling fresh.

Emerging onto the music scene with an undeniable genre-bending sound, Brooklyn’s fast-rising alt-R&B star Kelz2Busy is back with a dynamic new 3-pack release, 3 Typa Nights. The focus single "lost and found” – a fusion of dancehall rhythms and his Jamaican heritage – sets the scene for a vivid narrative of his nights out, offering an authentic glimpse into his life beyond the recording studio.

20-year-old artist midwxst announces the release date for his major label debut album, E3. The album illustrates his recent internal challenges, but also underscores profound growth and maturity. In addition to the release date, he shares the album tracklist and artwork, as well as the second song, "warning." Accompanied by an Ari Nissenbaum directed video, the lush and vibrant visuals are paired with energetically heartfelt lyrics.

Naomi Sharon is as alluring as she is hypnotic. Her new single, “Definition Of Love'' is no different. It’s a spiritual and physically enamoring musical moment that perfectly sets the tone for her forthcoming project. Naomi’s sonic is delicate and fragile, yet undeniable - it has a force and power behind it that urges repeated listens. Her neo-nostalgic soulful R&B is genuinely unique and certain to solidify her as a firm one to watch for 2023 and beyond.

Amindi returns with her new track “it’s not feeling good anymore. This is the third single from her upcoming mixtape Take What You Need, out on September 22nd. The newest single is a bittersweet meditation on a relationship at its end. Whistling over phased-out guitars, Amindi’s lyrics carry through the indie production with an acerbic honesty. The song comes together into a sugar-pill, easing the harsh necessity of a break up with a delicate delivery.

Genre-fluid singer-songwriter Yeek released his third studio album, Future Reference. The album is a simultaneously referential and forward-thinking body of work, drawing on both Yeek's past experiences and his musical aspirations to capture every facet of him as a musician. Organically built to exist in conversation with his past work, he's cultivated an intimate album that's centered on core memories and communities.

Chart-topping artist/producer Tai Verdes returns with his new single, “All White”. The song is a bass-forward track inspired in part by what Tai describes as the “second-generation Black mindset of putting culture on your shoulders and moving forward,” like the artistry of visionaries such as Andre 3000, Childish Gambino, and Kid Cudi.
