MUST LISTEN 131

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like Rodney Chrome, Araya, and Chase Shakur.

OVO Sound’s Smiley releases his newest single, “Nicky Nine Door,” a tell-tale track that emphasizes the rapper’s unmatched ability to summarize life in the midst of fame and come-up. The song is accompanied by an official video where the rap-star is seen enjoying his current lifestyle in the city of Toronto.

R&B newcomer, Chase Shakur, released his latest single “sink or swim.” The track is a mesmerizing meditation on life after a complicated relationship where vulnerability mingles with toughened scars, resulting in a work that situates Shakur as steely and willing to learn from his own failures.

Kwengface drops his mask and reveals his identity after more than five years behind the bally alongside his new fittingly titled single, “Freedom.” This single sees Kweng finesse his flow over an unexpected Garage-inspired production courtesy of CZR, with him stating how he’d risk his freedom to stand up for those closest to him.

Multi-faceted singer/songwriter Varas releases his latest EP, There You Go! - transporting his artistry into new territory. Standout track “Careful What You Wish For” is an uptempo, indie-pop track that highlights Varas’ vocals, weaving the tale of being young and wanting to fly high, ultimately leaving everything behind.

Delivering an elevated listening and viewing experience of his boundary-pushing blend of PC Music, R&B, and Hip-Hop, Rodney invites his audience to ascend with him and experience The Phenomenon of Rodney Chrome with "Break the Internet."

THOTTWAT, the creative duo of Harlem designer and artist THOTO and Chicago multi-hyphenate ICYTWAT, reemerge to share brand new single "FOLD." The high-energy track is the latest taste of their range of hard-hitting rap anthems that closely draw from formative influences like the celebrated stylings of 90's Memphis rap with a distinctly modern New York twist.

Queer, Thai-Chilean NYC native and multi-hyphenate artist Araya shares two ethereal tracks from his forthcoming ARENA EP, "CAMEO" and "FORGET." These intoxicating singles symbolize Araya's ability to create art that breaks tradition and pioneers new electronic, R&B, and pop worlds. The singles are two parts of a whole, building off each other while still offering distinct sides of the gamer's dice, Araya.

UK-based rapper Spencer Elmer dropped a smooth drill track with JAY1 titled: “Far From Rude.” Inspired by the possibilities of his future, he’s now taking each step with intention, dedicating all his energy into his new music.
