MUST LISTEN 129

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like jame minogue, Abby T., and ASHLI.

Genre-defying, Dominican-Irish artist jame minogue unveils his indie-bachata/pop single “Con Mi Coqueta.” Opening with a sultry monologue reminiscent of 90s ballads, sleigh bells swirl amidst traditional bachata elements. Funky basslines and his staple indie pop sound are then mixed into the sonic cocktail, as listeners are invited into his festive dreamland.

SZA returns with her long-awaited sophomore album SOS - a 23-track journey where we follow the critically acclaimed artist through heartbreak, acceptance, and the overall discomfort of healing. The album navigates through the choppy sea of her emotions while she embraces a new level of confidence in her life, where she isn’t looking for anyone to save her, but rather come to peace with where she is at presently.

Singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer Abby T. recently unveiled her debut EP, CRUSH. The project blends together hip-hop and pop sensibilities while seamlessly intertwining her clever and witty wordplay. Standout track “iSPY” poises Abby as a seasoned rapper with her sultry delivery over a fast-paced murky production, reflecting the song’s play on NASCAR.

Electro-pop star pinkpantheress has been releasing bite-sized singles showcasing her range and longevity throughout the year. She returns with “Boy’s a liar”, an addictive dreamy club track with an irresistible hook that immediately puts you in a groovy mood, while simultaneously being relatable with the universal truth that is: “that boy’s a liar.”

On his continuous stride to keep Memphis rap alive, Key Glock drops PRE5L, the southern rapper’s newest EP comprised of five songs emanating his best skills to the fullest. On “Spike Lee,” we hear Glock use a rare flow to levitate easily on the hard-hitting beat, produced by AIMONMYNECK & Blazerfxme. The Memphis rhymester, who has gained popularity over the years, repeatedly proves his consistency in doing what he does best.

Post the success of his viral anthem “Disingenuous,” Florida’s Flight returns with “The Scale,” another catchy hit featuring the Detroit heavyweight, BabyTron. The two seamlessly rap back and forth on a surprisingly upbeat production, complete with an infectious hook from Flight and an effortlessly clever verse from BabyTron.

Singer-songwriter, ASHLI, recently released her impressive debut EP Only One. The project ranges elements of pop, neo-soul, R&B, and pop giving us the perfect introduction to Ashli’s world. Standout track “NLTP” begins as a neo-soul treat and slowly transforms into an uncontrollable electronic dance track symbolizing the freedom of having nothing left to prove.

West London’s gift of a producer and artist Scrufizzer proves his versatility in his latest release, Sleeping On Me. The project is a combination of sounds the London native has mastered throughout the years, from garage and house to bashment in “Dun Know,” it’s a defining moment for Scrufizzer’s highly admired and curated craft.
